I don’t want to be a businesswoman!!!! kick … scream I don’t want to be a business woman! Really Really…….. really.
I want to be Creating! Painting glass, painting canvas, pushing pastel around……. anything with color. Maybe even making a new soap, or the perfect recipe for supper.
This makes makes me happy!
( me when I am creating!)
Then, when I am done…… I want someone to show up at my door and tell me how good it is, and sometimes I will let them buy it. ( well not the food.. that usually disappears) and not theses roses because I already sold this one.
But art supplies don’t grow on trees! And my attic is not big enough to hold all of my finished art. So I have to find a way to sell some of my art. The closest thing I can find to having someone show up at my door is the internet… the HUGE, internet… My head is swimming with Blogs! Instagram! Facebook! Pinterest! Etsy! All are supposed to be really good for selling art. And I have a limited amount of time, and brain power, not to mention a lot of pure laziness when it comes to learning anything new. ( especially when it comes to anything technological!)
So…. here is what little I know,
Instagram, I just started this, and like it for Art because Art is visual. For Instagram, I just take a picture, add a short comment, and it ‘s out there, for anyone to see. I am hoping if they like what they see, they can message me for info. Hasn’t happened yet, but it is early days.
Etsy- super easy to list your pieces, $0.20 for three months to be on their site, and has worldwide reach. Of the pieces I have sold from Etsy, one was local, two were international, and the rest spread out over the country. I am always amazed that even though the shipping is frequently more than the item, they still buy it. The most important part of Etsy, is the picture, and after that it is the picture, and did I mention that the picture of the item is the most important thing?
Facebook- Has a huge audience, and is free, and easy to use. I have had people see something on Facebook, and message me about it. I haven’t ever had anyone use the shop.
Blogging…. And here is the end of my blog, about selling art online. I am hoping to learn more, so maybe in a few months, I will blog again, and amaze everyone with my wisdom!
After writing all this I went to check out pinterest, and listened to this ….

and found some more good ideas, but mostly vindication that I am not the only artist who really has no clue about business.
