Flowers

I know I said I should stop doing watercolor flowers BUT… I bought a bouquet of fresh-cut flowers from a vendor at the West Seneca Farmers Market. “Lillies of the Field” are there every week with buckets of beautiful flowers. So I HAVE to buy one. They usually last about 7 days before they die, so no procrastinating.

The first bouquet I bought I tried to do an oil painting of. Oil paint dries really slow and it usually takes me more than 7 days to paint the finished picture, so of course, the flowers died, and as they were dying they changed color and shape. I took pictures and ended up painting from the photos. As you can see it is not even finished yet, and this was a month ago that I started this. And I am not thrilled with how it is turning out. These were not roses, but a different kind of pink flower that I don’t know the name of.

Having learned from that oil painting experience, when I bought this bouquet I was determined to do a finished painting of it with watercolors in one setting, before the flowers started wilting. I did have to put it outside because the scent of it was making me congested. But that is okay it is summer, great time to paint on the porch.

I wasn’t thrilled with how the yellow flower that looks ( and smells) like a giant dandelion turned out, so I tried to just paint that flower on a small piece of paper.

This is a little better but the colors are off. I think this would look cheerful on the front of a t-shirt. And that is it on the painting adventure today.
