I don’t get too far from home. I am not looking for your sympathy, it is just a fact. Taking this large family anywhere takes a lot of money, unless we were to go camping, and in that case I would stay home by choice. ( FYI – I hate camping) Which all has nothing do with this post. But this staying close to home and seeing the same things over and over, was making me feel……. small. It didn’t help that most of the ladies in my favorite Art Group – Holland Tuesday Painters- were traveling around the US, and Europe. So from these feelings of inadequacy. I asked for some pictures from a friend who had been in Scotland over the summer. And she handed me some beautiful pictures. Very beautiful! But…. everytime I have tried to paint them, they look, flat, boring…. ho hum, some down right awful.
One in particular, has a great composition, impressive colors, it SHOULD be a great painting. A curving river, an interesting bridge, interesting trees, interesting sky……
so why do these paintings look so BLAH?

I have never been able to actually finish any of these paintings. I don’t like any of them. So, I am going to give up on this for the moment. But any comments on what you think is wrong would be great. I am not promising that I will agree with what you say, but I will give anything you comment some thought.
We don’t learn from our successes, we learn from our mistakes! You have come sooo far! Don’t give up!
